The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has finally announced 15 Man Squad for the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy 2017 slated to be held from June 1st to June 18 in London. Rohit Sharma, Mohammad Shami has been recalled back into the team.
Rohit Sharma has not played any international game since October, due to a thigh injury during the ODI series against New Zealand. The right-hand batsman has scored 183 runs in 10 innings for Mumbai Indians in the current edition of Indian Premier League. While Shami has last played ODI in the 2015 World Cup semi-final and he has selectors’ faith with him.
The board announced the squad at the BCCI headquarters following the board's SCG on Sunday. The board members announced the team selection after weeks of speculation over the team pulling out of the high-profile tournament because of the financial dispute with ICC. BCCI delayed the announcement because the board raised objections with ICC for slashing the revenue shares under the new ICC revenue model. Under the previous model, BCCI used to get $570 million dollars which decreased to just $270 million dollars.
Meanwhile, Former Team India Director Ravi Shastri praised the selection of the 15-member squad for the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy. “Well done selectors. Good strong Indian team for Champions Trophy #TeamIndia #CT,” Ravi Shastri tweeted. Cricket commentator Harsha Bhogle wrote, “India have gone in for an extra batting option over a bowling option in the team. Expected one of Rahane/Pandey with a wrist spinner added.”
