Internet access reaches to its new heights with social networking sites setting new records. On Thursday, WhatsApp, the messaging service announced it now has over 1 billion daily active users. The Facebook-owned company also boasts an average of 55 billion messages sent per day. Also, one billion videos are shared on WhatsApp every day.
“As we celebrate this milestone, we’re committed more than ever to bringing you more useful features to enjoy, while delivering the reliability, simplicity, and security you expect with WhatsApp,” the company said in a statement.
In the past decade, Internet is setting new boundaries. The reach has grown dramatically and reaches to the far corners of the world, gives birth to significant thoughts and ideas, creates new opportunities and transforms millions of lives every day.
World’s largest social networking Facebook, has also announced that it now has 2 billion monthly active users this year. "We just announced our quarterly results and gave an update on our progress to bring the world closer together. Our community is now more than 2 billion people, including more than 1.3 billion people who use Facebook every day,” said Mark Zuckerberg, Facebook CEO in a statement. On an average 2 billion messages are sent between people and business each month on Messenger.
There are three billion people on the Internet and about 700 million from China alone. India has the largest market for WhatsApp users with over 200 million monthly active users as of February 2017. The company also plans to launch the digital payment space in India.
The widely popular video and photo sharing Instagram recently has also more than a billion downloads mark on the Google Play Store. Instagram was first launched in 2010 and within 3 months the platform crossed the 1 million mark.
