18 years ago on July 26, it was on this day Indian Army recaptured all the Indian posts in Kargil that had been occupied by Pakistan Army. Since then 26 July is observed as the anniversary of India’s victory over Pakistan in the 1999 Kargil War.
India is celebrating the Kargil Vijay Diwas today. Prime Minister Narendra Modi hailed the Indian Army forces for their sacrifices for the country on the occasion of Kargil Vijay Diwas.
Modi hailed the soldiers in series of tweets.
“Remembering our brave soldiers who fought gallantly for the pride of our nation & the security of our citizens during the Kargil War,” PM Modi hailed the Indian army. “Kargil Vijay Diwas reminds us of India’s military prowess & the great sacrifices our armed forces make while steadfastly keeping India safe,” he added

Kargil Vijay Diwas is observed not just in the Kargil-Dras sector but also in New Delhi where the Prime Minister of India pays homage to the war heroes at Amar Jawan Jyoti at India Gate.
