Love for Shaheed Bhagat Singh
There was a time when Bollywood feel in love with Shaheed Bhagat Singh movies in 2002- 2006 era! There were namely 10 to 12 movies based on the same person. It all started with Bobby Deol’s Shaheed movie in 2002 and soon followed by Ajay Devgan’s The Legend of Bhagat Singh and then finally Rang De Basanti by ace director Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra in 2006. But at the end, we were relieved that it ended!
The era of feminism
Then Bollywood fell head over heels over feminism cause between 2012 till recently. It produced great movies women-centric like- Queen starring Kangana Ranaut,
English Vinglish starring Sridevi
Chak De! India - The Entire Women's Hockey Team
Kahaani - Vidya Balan
Angry Indian Goddesses
Mary Kom - Priyanka Chopra
Feminism based movies were quite a rage and collected good box office collections also. But soon, it frizzled away with the times.
Here comes the biopic Times
The current obsession of making Biopic is catching the trend and yes, I believe it is here to stay.
With Sachin Tendulkar’s ‘Sachin: A Billion Dreams
Arjun Rampal’s “ Daddy” based on gangster Arun Gawli
Ranbir Kapoor’s biopic movie on Sanjay Dutt
Shraddha Kapoor playing lady don Haseena Parkar, who was the sister of gangster Dawood Ibrahim.
But the biopic trend is not very old- it all started in 2011, when Vidya Balan was roped in to portray life of Silk Smitha in Dirty Picture
Sports Athlete biopic trend was started with Farhan Akhtar playing Mikha Singh in Bhaag Milkha Bhaag.
But it’s a win-win situation for Indian audience as we get to see some powerful performances on screen with a good script. The trend is here to stay until the audience is too fed up and gives thumps down, but it always leaves us with a question what’s next in the kitty? Until then, bring it on!
Are you in awe with current love of Bollywood for Biopic? If yes, don't forget to share us some reasons!
