Eating food is a must for your body, however, at times we eat more than what our body needs. According to studies, overeating is the root cause of multiple chronic health problems and at worst it can kill you. To avoid overeating and to stay healthy, here is a list of five ways you should start following.
1. Eat Slowly
Eating slowly has innumerable benefits. Ever bite of food should be chewed properly. As per the study conducted at the University of Florida in the US, “it takes 12 or more minutes for food satisfaction signals to reach the brain of a thin person, but 20 or more minutes for an obese person.”So eating slowly lets your brain know about these messages.
2. Be cautious and aware
Try to concentrate only on one thing while you are eating. That’s eating only. Normally overeating happens when you are doing multi-tasking like reading a newspaper or watching TV. Your brain remains busy with multiple things and you fail to maintain the food and then overeating happens.
3. Common phrase: Drink 8-10 glasses of water every day
Water keeps your body hydrated and that makes you feel full physically. It eventually decreases the chances of overeating.
4. Sleep tight
Not sleeping enough causes several problems particularly stress. And when brain releases a stress hormone called Cortisol, and when you have not slept well, it leads to overeating. Remember the common phrase again, eight hours of sleep as it not only gives you better concentration but makes good repair of all the cells and tissues.
5. Half an hour exercise
Even if you have heard it hundred times, it’s time to work on it. Half an hour workout releases feel-good factor. Dependency on food reduces as you feel good with short exercises. This eventually helps you not to consume extra food.
