Anil Kumble’s resignation as the head coach of Virat Kohli-led Indian cricket team has left the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) in dilemma. The Spin Great’s statement about his ‘sour’ relations with the skipper and some latest reports have emerged that they were not in talking terms with each other since last 6 months.
As the ex- India Test captain decides to move on, we can take a look at the list of the candidates who are eligible for India’s head coach including Virender Sehwag, Richard Pybus ( England), Tom Moody ( former Australian player), Dodda Ganesh ( former fast bowler), Lalchand Rajput (A former Indian coach).
Let’s check their vital points-
1. Virender Sehwag
He enjoys a great rapport with the youngsters along with captain Virat Kohli also, as both hail from Delhi. Viru is the front-runner to be the head coach, but still, there’s a milestone to cover.
Virender Sehwag goes with instincts. Instincts can go wrong and certainly can’t compete with logic and analysis
2.Tom Moody
At present, he stands as one of the most qualified candidates for the post, as has a fair deal of idea about Indian talent.
3. Richard Pybus
Englishman Richard Pybus has only played a list of matches in his entire career but holds incredible experience in terms of coaching. After giving up his dream of being a proficient cricketer due to injuries, Pybus picked up coaching jobs in his 20s.
4. Dodda Ganesh
Dodda has a short experience of playing with only four test and an ODI under his cap. At present, he is coaching Goa and the junior teams at the NCA. He may be the only name on the list who would possibly never run into an ego clash with any player given his background.
5. Ravi Shastri
Reports suggest that Virat Kohli has roped in for Shastri and he seems a perfect candidate. Under Shastri, India has won many times including beating England 3-1 in the ODI series played away from home, reached the semi-final of the 2015 World Cup, and clinched a Test series against Sri Lanka in 2015, after 22 years.
