Call it irony or need of the hour, but India is hanging between satellite launching expeditions and toilet awareness schemes. And, the latest example is Akshay and Bhumi Pednekar’s movie- Toilet- Ek Prem Katha’. Even after 70 years of Independence India needs a fully-fledged movie and various superstars like Amitabh Bachchan and Vidya Balan spreading awareness for toilets! The big question is - does India needs these advertisements and movies on toilets? The answer is YES!
Around 60 per cent of Indians do not have access to safe and personal toilets, a new study has claimed. A report titled ‘It’s No Joke – State of the World’s Toilets’ by WaterAid states that “If all 774 million people in India waiting for household toilets were made to stand in a line, the line would stretch from Earth to the moon and beyond.”
Well, Akshay's new movie is definitely showing a new ray of hope!
Well, Akki fighting for toilets in the movie seemed surprising. The movie is already a hit online as the movie already got more than seventy lakhs views!
Trailer Review- Toilet- Ek Prem Katha’.
While the film looks like a remarkable mix of light-hearted punches, toilet wit and powerful drama, there’s a touch about the story that also appeals to the metropolitan elite, who’ve always toilets for granted.
Akshay Kumar plays Keshav, a young man who can’t wait to get a wife. But once he falls in love with and marries Jaya (Bhumi Pednekar), not having a toilet in the home becomes the bottom line of their relationship. In fact, Jaya leaves him for it too! Keshav then takes up the cause of open defecation and the decorum of a woman being put on exhibit. Bhumi Pednekar, as the determined Jaya, adds a feminist touch to the film and shouts aloud about women having to work harder for everything, as compared to men, counting having the space to defecate.
Toilet - Ek Prem Katha is an ironic take on the fight against the age-old custom of open defecation in India. From the panchayat to the hygiene department, from the role of the administration to the superstitions of the villagers, from frauds to the culture, from first love to marriage, this Akshay Kumar starer movie looks a total paisa vasool movie.
We are looking forward to August 11th!
