Today marks the ‘World Environment Day.’ The day is observed on 5 June every year, to raise awareness and highlight about the environmental concern. The theme for 2017 is 'Connecting people to nature'. That means encouraging people to get outdoors and into nature, to appreciate its beauty and its importance for future generations. This year’s host country is Canada where official celebration will take place.
‘Connecting to nature can involve all the physical senses: why not take off your shoes and get your feet (and hands) dirty; don’t just look at the beautiful lake, jump in! Take a hike at night and rely on your ears and nose to experience nature,’ the World Environment Day website stated.
United Nations General Secretary António Guterres in his message urged everyone to ''cherish the planet that protect us''. Guterres in a video message said, "Without a healthy environment we can't end poverty or build prosperity. We all have a role to play in protecting our only home."

"World Environment Day is the right time to reaffirm our commitment to protecting our environment and nurturing a better planet," he tweeted. We salute the will & determination of all those individuals & organisations working towards protecting the environment," he said in another tweet.
