Twitter has suspended Bollywood singer Abhijeet Bhattacharya’s account after he posted “derogatory” tweets, mostly against women. On May 22, Abhijeet spewed venom against JNU student-leader Shehla Rashid and others. “There is rumour she took money for two hours and didn’t satisfy the client... big racket,” Abhijeet wrote about Shehla.
After the tweet, many netizens lodged a complaint with Twiiter and his official account on the microblogging site eventually got suspended. “Account Suspended: This account has been suspended...,” stated the message from Twitter on his handle.
“The social media abuse and misogynistic comments by BJP members is not accidental; their entire mentality is anti-women. BJP wants to replace the Constitution of India with the anti-women Manusmriti which relegates women and Dalits to second-class citizenship,” Shehla Rashid wrote in her Facebook post after Abhijeet’s account was suspended.
