James Bond actor Sir Roger Moore has died at age 89 after a short battle with cancer. His family announced the news on the actor’s official Twitter account. Roger Moore played 007 in more Bond movies than any other actor.
"With the heaviest of hearts, we must share the awful news that our father, Sir Roger Moore, passed away today. We are all devastated," his children Deborah, Geoffrey and Christian announced in a statement on his official Twitter page. Roger Moore is survived by his wife, Kristina Tholstrup, and three children.
Moore was born on Oct. 14, 1927, and began his acting career in the 1940s. He rose to prominence in 1962 when he played as Simon Templar in the television series “The Saint.” The British show’s success made Moore a star. He later brought that fame to the “James Bond” franchise.
The British actor is best known for playing James Bond in seven movies over 12 years. Moore was the third of six actors who have played James Bond in seven movies, beginning with 1973's Live and Let Die and ending with A View to a Kill in 1985. Here is a look back of all James Bond roles in pics.
